HELP MAINTAIN THE BEAUTY OF YOUR JEWELLERY WITH SOME EXTRA LOVING CARE.
AVOID CHEMICALS
Chemicals can damage or tarnish precious metals and may harm some coloured gems.
COSMETICS
Put jewellery on after you’ve applied makeup, hairspray, perfume and sunscreen lotion, and be sure to let everything dry before adding your jewellery.
AT HOME
Keep jewellery away from vinegar, lemons, acidic foods and cooking grease, and remove before using household cleaners.
SWIMMING
Remove jewellery before swimming in a chlorinated pool, and avoid wearing gold plate near the ocean as salt water can break down plating more rapidly.
STORE SAFELY
AT HOME
Store your jewellery in a soft cloth or pouch made of cotton or silk (avoid linen) to protect it from external elements.
Metals can be affected by exposure to light, anything from sunlight to household lighting. Ensure your jewellery is stored away from halogen lighting; halogens get hot and their heat can tarnish metal faster.
Pearls draw moisture from the air, therefore storing your pearl jewellery in a dry area, such as a safe deposit box, can sometimes do more harm than good.
TRAVELLING
Protect your jewellery from scratches and impact damage by padding them in a small case.
CLEAN WISELY
Jewellery will naturally age and tarnish over time and many people enjoy the character of aged jewellery. If you prefer to keep your jewellery looking pristine we recommend cleaning regularly using a gentle, environmentally-friendly method.
GOLD PLATE
Wash with a wet cloth and a mild, detergent free soap. Avoid vigorous rubbing.

SILVER JEWELLERY
Here is one of our favourite techniques for removing tarnish off silver:
Place 2 teaspoons of baking soda and a 10cm square (saucer-sized) piece of tin foil in a pot of boiling water.
Add sterling jewellery.
Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
Remove jewellery, wash thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
Note: this technique removes tarnish, but it doesn’t polish the jewellery.
That is to say, it doesn’t increase its shine.
